Korean Language Course Enrollment for International Students (New Students from 2025) – TOPIK Level 4 Exemption
International students who are exempted from submitting TOPIK Level 4 as a research performance requirement must complete an additional Korean language course as follows.
1. Overview
– For international students, if their academic ability and research performance during their period of study are recognized, they may be exempted from submitting TOPIK Level 4 upon approval following a recommendation from their academic advisor. In such cases, they are required to complete additional Korean language courses designated by the Dean of the Graduate School. (Regulation revised on Oct. 2, 2024)
– Purpose: Even if international students are exempted from submitting TOPIK Level 4 due to recognized academic ability and research performance, they are required to complete additional Korean language courses to encourage interest in Korea during their studies.
2. Korean Language Course: Choose and complete one of the following
a. Completion of courses at the Soongsil University Korean Language Education Center
– Main content: Completion of regular programs (Levels 1–2 or Levels 3–6)
b. Completion of an Online Korean Language Open Course
– Main content
- Complete an online Korean language course offered on K-MOOC
- K-MOOC (https://www.kmooc.kr) login required → Course → Humanities → Linguistics & Literature

- A course that issues a certificate of completion must be completed

- Each course has its own evaluation criteria, and a certificate is issued only if a total score of 70 or higher is achieved.

3. Notes
- Effective period: Applies to new international students admitted from the 2025 academic year
- Certificate submission period: The certificate must be submitted to the department when submitting research performance prior to the public presentation of the thesis. End.
